Natural Hair Guide to Paris

For all the girls with Afro/curly hair in Paris looking for places to get their hair done or to find hair supplies, your in luck. Thankfully, the natural hair scene in Paris has evolved since I first move to Paris 5 years ago, and you have a lot more choice when it comes to hair care in Paris. The landscape is ever changing so I prepared an updated guide to all things hair in Paris.

Vocabulary:

Shampoo/: Faire un shampooing

Afro Soins: Run by a lady from Guadeloupe (Josie), she is used to doing natural hair. I usually go for a wash, deep-condition under the steamer, and blow-dry (only for 27euros)

Nicole Pembrook: New hair salon formally known as Polished Hair Care, which is run by Nicole- a hair and beauty expert from the US.

Ciara Coiffure: Ciara is an American hair stylist based in Paris that is specialized in special events (weddings, press, fashion, events).

Appointments: She travels to your home, event, hotel room for your hair styling need. You can make a reservation through her website.

Djeneba: My go to person for braids, she is so fast, doesn’t braid to tight, and my hair always turns out amazing.

Where to buy hair products: 

When you get out of the metro at either of these stops: Strasbourg Saint Denis, Chateau d’eau, Chateau rouge, you will run into beauty supply stores with all your hair product needs. There also a few other hair supply stores dedicated to Afro-hair in Paris. Below you will find some of my favorites.

Community:

Natural Hair Academy- Annual conference since 2013 dedicated to natural hair. This year’s conference will take place June 9th.

Black Beauty University: Online coaching platform created by Clarise Libenne that is  dedicated to all types of natural hair.

Ma Coiffeuse Afro– Is a mobile application that connects women with afro hair to stylists in Paris that will come to your home or you can go to a salon. All the stylists are hand picked, professional, and have undergone quality assurance to ensure they are able to do the hair styles advertised on the app( braids, blow-outs, hair cuts, color, etc).

Nappy Days– is dedicated to hosting events for Natural hair in Paris. The also host a “Miss Nappy” pageant

un-Ruly– is an online community that celebrates and inspires the versatility and beauty of Black hair and women. They have an awesome series called Pretty which examines the ideas of what beauty means in different parts of the world. Check out the Paris series for Paris.
