Afro Punk Paris: Weekend Guide July 15-16, 2017


The third edition of Afro Punk Paris is finally here! If you’re a local or visiting Paris this weekend there are tons of things going on. Here are a few ideas of things to occupy your time before and after the festival.

July 14- Fête nationale aka Bastille Day


This year Paris’ annual firework show will be themed “Paris and the Olympics”, starting around 11pm at the Eiffel Tower. Grab your picnic spreads and make sure to get there early,  it is garunteed to be packed.  Here are a few ideas of other locations to watch the fireworks:

La Butte Montmartre

Parc de Belleville

Find a friend’s apartment with a killer view of the Eiffel

Bals de Pompiers- July 13-14

A huge tradition to celebrate the 14th of July in Paris is to party with Firefighters. Yea, you heard right, Bals de Pompier (Firemans Balls) are essentially parties that include entail men in uniform, music, drinking, and dancing  at different fire stations throughout Paris.

July 15- Afro Punk Day 1

Breakfast: Grab a cup of coffee and some tasty French pastries from a local bakery or cafe.

Late Morning: Explore Paris,  before making your way to Parc de La Villette

If you have time check out the Jamaica Jamaica exhibit at the Philharmonie de Paris which is right next to the Afro Punk venue

Pre-Festival Drinks: Ton Ton Jaures is less than 5 min walk from the venue and its  a great place to grab happy hour drinks and a bite to eat

July 16- Afropunk Day 2

BRUNCH: What’s a Sunday without Brunch?  Le Pavillon des Canaux is a great option for Sunday Brunch. It’s just a 10  min walk from Parc de La Villette along Canal de l’ourq. It was once a boat house that was converted to a bar/restaurant that makes you feel like your at home!

July 17- Le Paris Noir: Black Paris Tour

If you’re still in the mood for some fun… Le Paris Noir Black Paris tour is a great option to learn about Paris from a different lens. The tour will be in English!
